I've always been interested in gaming since i was very young, starting with a SNES, then an n64, ps1, ps2, xbox then xbox360 (Currently).
however, just after my first xbox, one of my dads friend told us to get 'Call of Duty' for pc, at first we were like 'oh my god, no way will i be able to use keys and a mouse'.
It was very hard to get used to, going from console/controller gaming to Pc/keyboard and mouse. But also the other thing that made it harder is the fact that everything about Performance, because i never played online before PC gaming, i never experienced 'Lag'. As well as internet performance, there's also the RAM/Graphics side of it is VERY important. The better your performance the more smooth your game play is and therefore more enjoyable/easier.
Call of duty kept bringing out more new games which I kept getting, i actually got really good. However it was quite sad, me and my dad 2 computers in the same room, and we used to play online together ><.
Call of duty is a 'FPS' game (first-person shooter) which is set in ww2. There is a single player option but i didn't really play it.
I didn't get that serious with any other games except Runescape, then Diablo 2, Then World of Warcraft. Runescape is a very basic java game online, the genre is 'MMORPG'
which stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. In this kinda games you typically make a character and make them progress through 'level's as in, you start off as your player being level 1, then you get 'experience points' by doing quests, or killing things to gain these points which helps you to level up. As you get higher your character gets stronger etc. Runescape was free but there is an optional 'members' subscription for extra content.
Diablo 2 was my first actual MMORPG, which was just like Runescape but much better. you buy the actual game and there's no subscription, i got very serious with this, my best friend at the time also played all of these at the same time, and used to come round my house and play with me at the same time.
World of wacraft effected me the most. I Got it for my birthday in May '06, recommended by my cousin who also recommended the other games. I remember first playing it and just being addicted straight away. I used to play it everyday, i used to get home from school, and play until i go to bed. i literally stopped going out, at the weekends i would go to bed REALLY late, playing it, have a ridiculous lie in the next day and play it all day again until late. I actually think this game affected my GCSE grades, i played it a lot and was literally 'addicted' like many others. Do a youtube search to see more about how World of Warcraft is addictive. People used to ask if i played it and i would deny it, as i see it as really un-cool and 'loser' like.
However, online gaming does have positives, it is very enjoyable and now is almost like a social network. I've met a fair few people online through gaming that i still speak to months and months after meeting them on the game, i'd usually ask for their MSN to keep in contact. Most online games have a 'Friends' option in-game, which shows that its meant for people to make friends. There's a program called Xfire which is basically an instant messenger but it shows what games people are playing etc. it also records how much time you spend on the game and when.
